Today I am going to share with you 14 different ways on how to increase your happiness.

Now if you’re anything like me, the daily grind, the ups and downs of life, the chaotic schedule – it all plays into what can feel like not the happiest time even if you are pursuing your goals and doing everything you think you’re supposed to be doing.

Sometimes you just need a little extra boost to help you become a little bit happier. That’s what today is all about. Did you know, that 50% of your happiness is just genetically predetermined? You know those people who are just like beaming with happiness all the time like they’re just naturally like that 50% is just how you’re born.

The next 10-20% of your happiness is determined by life circumstances such as your age, marital status, how much money you have or make, other you know circumstances in your life that you know reflect where you’re at with everything.

And the last 30-40% percent of your happiness is determined by you. So you can actually increase your happiness up a lot by doing certain things in your life to make yourself happier, and that’s where this list of 14 things that you can do to increase your happiness comes in. So let’s get started.

How To Increase Your Happiness

1. Spend money on experiences instead of things.

Research shows that you will be much happier if you go on an adventure, take a small trip, do whatever it is with your friends and spend money that way instead of buying another material item.

2. Practice gratitude.

I do this using my gratitude journal. I write down daily what I’m grateful for in the morning and at night this is just one way you can do it lots of different ways but find a way to incorporate practicing gratitude into your life and it will make you happier.

3. Incorporate meditation into your life

I know that this can be hard if you’re already really busy or it’s just something that sounds totally foreign to you but there are tons of ways that you can get started really easily.

For example, just looking on YouTube, incorporating meditation videos (1), or podcasts into your daily routine can increase your happiness because it will bring you down to a more calm state and really present in your reality and this will make you happier.

4. Increase your exercise.

This gets your energy going, it is scientifically proven to boost your mood and relieve stress, so increasing your exercise at least up to two to three times a week is a great way to increase your happiness.

5. Remake your morning routine.

Your morning routine is the time from when you’ve got up until the time you start your work whatever that is whether it’s getting the kids ready and going off to your day job outside the home.

So when you have your morning routine take an hour to two hours doing things that really you want to do whether it’s reading, studying something, listening to podcasts, exercising, meditating, just enjoying coffee reading the news, just whatever it is for you – accomplishing goals – do that during your morning routine so that you make sure you get done what’s most important to you in the first part of your day and this will leave you much happier.

6. Make sure you get enough sleep.

This can go totally under the radar when it comes to happiness but it’s really important for you and your health and your mood and your energy to make sure you got enough sleep at night and for you that might be six hours it might be eight hours it might be less or more everyone is different, but whatever it is for you make sure you get that much sleep every
night.

7. Focus on your long-term goals.

Sometimes the daily grind feels really mundane and maybe even stressful but if you look at why you’re doing those daily things and what your long-term goals are it can help you refocus your mindset, so that you’re actually appreciative of what you’re doing now and how hard you’re working, because you know, that it will pay off in the long run.

8. Commit to being happy and to have a good attitude

If you wake up every day and just let the world come at you with whatever is going on you might find yourself kind of reacting to everyone else’s needs and moods and you’re just going in every which direction.

Instead of doing that, wake up every day with a good attitude and say to yourself okay I’m gonna be happy today, my own internal happiness depends on it and I’m going to have a good attitude for that reason regardless of what happens today. And just doing that every day can definitely boost your mood and happiness over time.

9. Listen to inspiring podcasts.

I use my iTunes podcast app (2) and listen to tons of different podcasts that help inspire me on a daily basis. This is one of the best ways to help me get out of a funk. I know if I’m sort of in my own head and not in the greatest mood, listening to a podcast will help me shift my mindset and just be happier all around.

It may take you a little bit to find what works for you but go through different podcasts and see what you connect with and which ones make you happier. I highly recommend this tip.

10. Make sure you’re smiling.

Actually having like a default mood and attitude and reflection on your face that shows that you’re happy will actually boost your mood. So, the more you’re smiling and the higher energy you have the more likely you are to radiate happiness and it will affect other people as well so make sure you have that smile on your face every day.

11. Spend time with your friends and family.

If you’re a high achiever or you have a lot going on in your life this can actually be hard for you, because it’s not necessarily one of your goals, so it can feel like wasting time.

Really, spending time with your friends and family is going to increase your happiness, because it’s going to give you that like love and connection that you need so much to be happy in life. Prioritize those quality relationships and put the time in with your friends and family.

12. Help someone else.

Oftentimes we get stuck in our own head, in our own problems and we don’t realize how much we are wasting our energy until we go out and do something for someone else, and it really boosts our mood and helps us to feel better about our lives, and then you also are helping someone else at the same time.

13. Get outside.

A lot of times a nice walk, just getting some fresh air on your face, getting out into nature will increase your happiness especially if you are normally inside all day working.

14. Schedule time in your calendar for fun.

If you have a lot going on with your family, with your goals, with your job, with everything else, it can be hard to make sure that you really just take time for yourself to have fun. Do whatever it is that you enjoy and that you have a good time doing, and make sure you put it in your calendar, so that you have fun and can relax, and that will boost your happiness.

If you’re like me, you’ll find that the more you focus on being happy the
happier you become just by the nature of putting effort into making your own
life happy.
