Asking the right questions is a very good way to solve problems and find answers. The right question can direct our thoughts in the right direction. If you are looking for your passion and you don’t know what your vocation is yet, asking a few questions may help you to discover it.

1. Who inspires you?

What kind of person or character inspires you? Who could be a mentor for you? Could it be an athlete, an actor, a famous entrepreneur or any other person?

Ask yourself what makes this person inspire you? What qualities and behaviours make this person attract your attention? Focus your attention on someone who inspires you and use this admiration as a starting point for your passion.

2. What do people thank you for?

Each of us has a skill in which we are good. You may doubt whether you actually have such a “thing”. However, believe that when you think about it well, you will surely find something like that.

Some are good at cooking, others in business or do-it-yourself. Think about what kind of problems people turn to you with? What do you help them with and what do they thank you for? What are you good at?

3. What would you do if you knew it would be a success?

If you remove defeat from the equation, what would you like to do? Some people do not take action because they are afraid of failure.

Sometimes they waste their talents in this way and the world doesn’t have a chance to hear about them. They are afraid of failure and feel fear. Think what you would do if you were guaranteed success.

4. What would you like to hear at your funeral?

It is not a pleasant vision, but unfortunately each of us will die someday. If you attended your own funeral, what would you like people to say about you? What kind of story about you do you want to leave behind? What is your legacy? How do you want people to remember you?

If you want to discover your passion in life, answer this question. In the face of death, the fear of failure, the fear of embarrassment, pride, all this disappears, and what remains is really important.

5. What do you browse on the Internet?

Imagine that you have an hour off and start surfing the Internet. What topics are you looking for? If it’s entertainment content, you may want to become an actor, director, comedian. If you are interested in politics, you may want to direct your interest towards politics, diplomacy, journalism.

What content do you like to consume and what topics do you like to read? Among them can be what you are really attracted to and passionate about.

6. When and in what situation have you lost track of time recently?

Think of a situation when you have been so absorbed in a given activity that you have lost all sense of time. What did you do?

It could be reading, playing football, writing, listening to music, exercising, etc. To find your passion, look for tasks and activities that absorb all your attention.

7. When and in what situation did the result of your work exceed your expectations and those of others?

What was that? Why did you work so hard in this case and did you do so well? How can you repeat it in the future? Keep these moments of triumph in mind and try to recreate them. They can direct you towards your passion.

8. What do your friends say “you’re great at this…”?

Sometimes we don’t see our possibilities, we don’t think we have anything special to offer. For those who look at us from the side, the situation can be quite different.

From the perspective of an observer you can often see what someone is strong about. Ask your friends what they think you are good at. You will find that they will surely point out a few things and may direct you towards your passion.

9. What would you like to change in society?

If you have the resources, think about what you would like to improve in society? What public matters would you like to be involved in? What do you object to? What would you like to change?

Maybe you would like to improve the environment, start fighting hunger in the world, join the campaign for gender equality, etc. You would like to make a difference. Among the things you would like to change in society and in today’s world is your passion, something that makes you want to get involved in a topic and change something for the better.

10. What topics do you discuss with your friends?

Remember the last discussion with your friends about which topic it was about? What position did you defend? What were your opinions and arguments?

If there was a topic in which you fiercely defended your opinion, what was it about? What we strongly advocate is important for us, it may direct us to the areas we are passionate about.

11. What makes you worried about future generations?

As a species, we are very expansive and are heavily exploiting the resources of the planet. Social tensions are also growing. We are dealing with global warming, equatorial deforestation, terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, armed conflicts.

What moves you the most in today’s world? What would you like to change so that future generations who will follow you do not experience it.

12. How do you spend your free time?

When do you have free time, what do you usually do? What topics and issues do you get involved in? Your interests and hobbies may show what you like to do and what you are good at. If you like reading, maybe you can also write something of your own?

If you like to watch films, maybe you could do some film reviewing, directing or scriptwriting. Try your imagination and don’t limit yourself to ideas. Look for opportunities and areas that inspire and fascinate you.

Each of us has moments in our lives when we are in top shape. We feel good, we are happy and satisfied, we are energized by positive energy. Catch these moments and determine what made you feel like you were in this state. What did you do?

14. What kind of problem would you like to solve?

What kind of problem would you like to solve that would have such a big impact on humanity?

15. If you were to lead the revolution, what would it be about?

The question may be controversial, but what change is so important to you that you would be able to fight for it? Fighting for change can trigger a revolution. What are you prepared to lead a revolution on?

16. What could you do for free?

What kind of job makes you so much fun that you would be able to do it even if you didn’t receive any money for it.

Do you have something like this that you could do for free? You just like to do it and that’s why you do it. You don’t need any additional stimuli to act. Think about such activities, maybe this is the direction in which you should go.

17. What did you dream of when you were a child?

Childhood dreams can be irrational, but they have their value. Think what you wanted to be when you were a child. What gave you the energy to act? Did you make your childhood dreams come true? Did you become what you wanted to be?
